Vegan Recipe Ideas For The Holidays

Words by

Although Thanksgiving is a great way to get turkeys, we can still have a fantastic holiday!

The key is to use recipes that don't include animal products but still have a rich filling and delicious taste. Remember, everything can be veganized! From your holiday turkey to your yummy scalloped potatoes, you can make them all without any animal products. Here are some great Vegan Recipe Ideas For The Holidays:

Scalloped Potatoes

Scalloped potatoes usually have milk and cheese, but we can make them Vegan by substituting cow's milk with almond or soy milk. And instead of adding cheese to add flavor, add nutritional yeast! Nutritional yeast is a deactivated yeast with a similar texture and taste as Parmesan cheese, but better for you. It's packed with Vitamin B-12 and is also a great source of folic acid.

Cranberry Sauce

Most cranberry sauces are made out of sugar and jellied cranberries that sometimes have gelatin in them, which is obtained by boiling the skin, tendons, ligaments, or bones of cows or pigs. And sometimes, when it's cooked with sugar, corn syrup is added in.

How to make the vegan version

•just use fresh cranberries and add enough water to cover all berries.
•Cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes. Then remove from the heat and let cool slightly.
•Add a dash of cinnamon, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 cup of orange juice, and mix.
•You can also add a little bit of ginger if you like the flavor. Put in the fridge to cool down before serving.

Turkeys And Stuffing

You can substitute veggie burgers for turkey in your stuffing and follow the exact directions! It's simple to make the vegan version. Just follow along with your regular turkey cooking instructions, but instead of using a turkey, substitute it with veggie burgers!

Vegan Gravy

Gravy is usually made out of pan drippings or beef stock to give it that rich flavor. But you can easily make vegan gravy by using vegetable broth or vegetable bouillon to give it some flavor.

Christmas tree garlic bread sharer

For the garlic bread, you can get creative and use veganaise or balsamic vinegar. You can even add some spices like oregano, basil, and crushed red peppers to give it that nice kick of flavor!

Christmas granola

To make the granola, you can use any spices you like. To give it a bold flavor, add some cocoa powder and cinnamon! It's also great with dried fruits like cranberries, raisins, and prunes.

Festive fruit salad

For the festive fruit salad, you can use any seasonal fruits of your choice! Apples are one of my favorite ingredients to add to salads because it gives it that crunchy texture! You might also want to consider using fresh cranberries, raisins, and bananas.

Vegan Bolognese With Mushrooms and Walnuts

The vegan recipe includes Bolognese sauce, made with mushrooms and walnuts. The dish also features spaghetti squash, which is lower in carbs than pasta. And for the green in this colorful plate, serve with a side of steamed Brussels sprouts.

Vegan Eggnog

The vegan eggnog features raw cashews. The drink will thicken up when chilled; if you'd like yours to be less thick, add more almond milk instead of water. And if you don't like nutmeg, leave it out!

To make the vegan eggnog

•Add 1 cup of water to a blender with 1/4 cup raw cashews and whirl till smooth.
•Pour into a bowl, add three tablespoons of nondairy milk, three tablespoons maple syrup or brown sugar, two teaspoons almond extract, and a dash each of ground cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
•If you want to add some booze to it, consider adding a splash of rum or brandy.

Vegan Chocolate Coconut Yule Log

The vegan chocolate yule log features a raspberry filling and is finished with an airy whipped cream frosting made with coconut cream. To get the wavy look of the outer chocolate coating, use a pastry bag fitted with a 1/4-inch round tip to pipe on thin lines that will set up into waves.

Mashed potatoes with basil topping

For the mashed potatoes, you can use any spices you like to make them flavorful. For example, some great ingredients are thyme, nutmeg, and paprika for that pleasant subtle taste. You will also want to consider adding some vegan butter or olive oil if you like its flavor.

Brussels Sprouts With Walnuts and Pomegranate

For Brussels Sprouts with Walnuts and Pomegranate, cut the Brussels sprouts into halves. To make it a bit more flavorful, you can add some rosemary, salt, and pepper for that extra kick of flavor! For the walnuts, toast them in a dry pan over medium heat until fragrant.

Christmas Chocolate Cake With Fondant Snowflakes and Berries

For the cake, you can add some cocoa powder to give it that rich dark chocolate flavor. You can also add some vanilla extract for an even more flavorful taste! And don't forget about the berries! Raspberries are my favorite go-to berry because of their bright color.
